Scope and search mode
Limit to files, choose Hybrid / Meaning / Exact words, passages per answer, answer only from documents and follow-up rewriting.
When a conversation has a knowledge base, the toolbar gains two more pickers.
File scope
All files (default) or pick N files — Search only these files. Only documents at ready
are listed. Useful when you know the answer sits in one particular contract and do not want other
files to interfere. Changing the knowledge base resets the scope.
Retrieval settings (popover)

| How to search | Hybrid — meaning plus wording, the default. Meaning (vector) — by intent, tolerant of different phrasing. Exact words (keyword) — literal matches; use for codes, proper names, precise terms. |
| Passages per answer | KB default (the value in retrieval settings) or 3 / 6 / 10 / 15 / 20. |
| Answer only from the documents | On: the model refuses when the documents do not cover the question, instead of filling in from general knowledge. Off: the model may add its own knowledge but still cites what came from the documents. |
| Rewrite follow-up questions | On (default): a follow-up like and last year? is rewritten into a complete question before searching — you see Searched for: … under your question. Turn off when your questions already stand alone and you want to save a model call. |
These choices apply to the current conversation and travel with it; a new conversation returns to the knowledge base defaults.
